Elżbieta Bieńkowska, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Entrepreneurship and SME, and Duško Lopandić, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union, have signed an agreement formalizing the accession of Serbia to the Competitiveness of Enterprises, and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Programme (COSME).
The COSME Programme will provide support to projects in a wide range of areas, including clustering, women’s entrepreneurship, reducing administrative burden for enterprises and the protection of intellectual property rights for companies operating in countries outside the EU.
COSME is an EU programme aimed at increasing the competitiveness and sustainability of SMEs. The programme period is 2014-2020, and the budget is EUR 2.3 billion.
The Republic of Serbia is the sixth non-EU country joining and contributing to the programme, after Montenegro, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Turkey and Albania.
