On January 26, the Ministry of Health announced that the Republic of Serbia occupied the 30th place on the list of 35 European healthcare systems according to the Euro Health Consumer Index (EHCI) report for 2015, compared to the 33rd place it occupied in 2014. Serbia was awarded 81 points more than in 2014 which, according to the ECHI assessors, to this day this represents the biggest progress made by any country in Europe. In 2015, Serbia surpassed Bulgaria, Romania, Albania and Poland, although it has a long way to go in order to get close to the more developed Balkan countries. The best healthcare system in Europe still belongs to the Netherlands.
“This success is mainly the result of a decrease in infant mortality numbers and improved access to healthcare protection services”, the statement said.
Euro Health Consumer Index evaluates the national healthcare systems based on 48 indicators, including patient rights and awareness, access to health care protection, treatment outcomes, scope and area of services, prevention and use of pharmaceutical products. According to this analysis until last year, Serbia was the lowest ranking country in Europe.
Health Consumer Powerhouse (HCP) published the Conclusion of the EHCI for 2015. This survey has been conducted since 2005 and represents the leading comparison for the national healthcare protection system functioning assessment in 35 European countries.
