Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić stated on 1 December that if Serbia manages to achieve a stable and sustainable economic growth not entirely dependent on investments, an efficient public administration and an impartial and independent judiciary, it can calmly await EU’s decision on whether or not to open its doors to new members.
In an interview for the Tanjug news agency in Hong Kong, where she participated in a prestigious conference organized by the London Economist, Brnabić stated that Serbia would then practically become part of the European family of nations, even without formally becoming a member state.
If we assume that at some point, say in 2021, all key reforms will have been completed, and Serbia will then be waiting for the EU to open its doors to new members, already at that point we will enjoy a significant share of the benefits of a member state, the Prime Minister explained. Then, as she said, the message will get across to investors that we are a stable environment without any major shocks, and that the country is steadily progressing, regardless of who is in power.
The Prime Minister was the keynote speaker at the gala dinner organized by the Economist in Hong Kong on the occasion of the World in 2018 annual conference, where she participated in a Q&A session.
