Serbia’s membership in the European Union is supported by 59% of its citizens, while in a potential referendum on EU accession, 56% of its citizens would vote in favour, and 26% would vote against accession, as shown by the results of the survey of citizens of Serbia regarding EU integration, presented on 2 December. Those in favour of accession reference prosperity, a better standard of living and greater chances of employment, while opponents of accession fear an increase in poverty and unemployment, as well as loss of national identity. Over one half of the respondents expect Serbia to become an EU member state during the next ten years, while 14% believe it will never happen.
The survey by the TNS Medium Galup agency was implemented between 1 and 7 October, and encompassed 1,247 respondents.
