Almost every other citizen of Serbia would support EU accession, and one in four would like to live in a country resembling Switzerland, show the results of a survey conducted by the EU Integration Office of the Republic of Serbia conducted in June. The survey showed that the citizens are insufficiently informed of the country’s course of European integration and that next to noone knows the amount of money coming from the EU. Two thirds of the citizens support reforms and believes them to be necessary for establishing a better state.
The support to EU memmbership has dropped by 5% relative to December 2013, which, according to the SEIO press release may be considered customary, and depends on the circumstances and events on the global scene. At the moment, 46% respondents would support membership in a referendum as compared to 51% in December 2013. Generally, support to EU accession is decreasing. Over the past five years it was the highest in November 2009, when 73% of the citizens supported the accession and the lowest in December 2012 when 41% of citizens supported it.
