The Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) poses questions to teachers and principals of primary and secondary schools all over the world. The first TALIS was conducted in 2008 in 24 countries. The survey conducted in 2013 gathered information from more than 30 countries. The objective of TALIS is to establish conditions that the teachers work in so as to ensure more efficient teaching and learning in schools. Comparisons between the states based on various parametres provided by TALIS will allow for exchange of best practices in education and get insight into the solutions other countries use in resolving the challenges in education.
In Serbia, TALIS was conducted in the period April – May 2013. In all 3,857 teachers of higher grades of primary schools and 186 prinicipals from 191 schools responded to the questionnaires. The questions related to: characteristics of teachers, working environment, school management, opportunities for development and advancement, rewards and feedback, pedagogical practices and opinions and self-efficiency and job satisfaction.
