Workshop on Participation of Social Protection Institutions in the Migrant Crisis in Serbia

Published 26.05.2017.

radionice_migrantiOn 16 May in Novi Pazar, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Nenad Ivanišević Ph.D., opened a workshop on the participation of social protection institutions in the migrant crisis.

“Our country has proven to be the most humane, from Syria to Germany when it comes to caring for the migrants. Serbia was the first to establish a Working Group to address the issue of mixed migration flows”, said the State Secretary and he reminded the participants of the workshop that the centres for social work were sent a mandatory instruction on how to act with regard to unaccompanied migrants as one of the most vulnerable categories of the migrant population.

Nenad Ivanisevic Ph.D. also attended the workshop on the participation of the social protection system in the migrant crisis in Serbia that took place on May 23 in Novi Sad.

He stated that the social protection system reacted adequately to all migration challenges we had to face, including the ones that happened in the 90s, by providing protection which was in the best interest of the recipients regardless of their place of birth. The State Secretary highlighted that the workshop held was important for the even better reaction of social workers in the field.

The seminars were organised by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran, and Social Affairs, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) within the global project “Mainstreaming Migration into National and Development Strategies.”
