An efficient and well-targeted social welfare and healthcare system comprises a set of measures and programmes mitigating the consequences of socio-economic risks, such as disease, unemployment, ageing, disability, etc. These programmes include various cash benefits (pensions, unemployment benefits, social assistance, etc.) and services (for the elderly, children, families, persons with disabilities, etc.). Under the EU accession process, harmonization in the field of social welfare is highly important, based primarily on respect for human rights and reducing social inequalities.
The Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit is an active participant in designing pathways for the development and reform of the social welfare and healthcare systems, through activities such as: drafting analyses of prescribed rights in the domain of social welfare and healthcare, identifying indicators for monitoring social inclusion, mapping social welfare services at the local level, and support for the development of innovative models for social inclusion at the local level.
