At the Donors’ Conference in Brussels, two thirds of the EUR 995 million pledged by the European Union, its institutions and Members States, for Serbia to deal with the aftermath of floods. Michael Davenport, Head of the EU Delegtatiojn to Serbia stated that Serbia would receive EUR 80 million in grants from IPA funds and would also gain access to the EU Solidarity Fund as if it were a Member State. However that sum is not yet known and will depend on damage assessment. The EU Member States offers additional EUR 10-15 million of assistance.
EIB and EBRD have pledged over EUR 500 million in loans as assistance to Serbia in removing the consequences of floods and so the European Union, its instittions and Member States are practically securing two thirds of the overall assistance mobilised at the Donors’Conference.
According to Ambassador Davenport, the fact that the Donor Conference pledged more money than expected is a “big message of solidarity by the international community “.
