The implementation of quality measures within the envisaged deadline and supervision over the implementation of such activities are key challenges for Serbia under Chapter 23, after its opening in July, as stated by the participants of the event “Implementation of Activities Envisaged by the Action Plan for Chapter 23” on 1 November. Serbia has 50 transitional measures in Chapter 23, but they will be met by the activities envisaged by the action plan for that chapter, said the head of the negotiation team of Serbia in the EU accession negotiations Tanja Miščević. She said that the European Commission European Integration Progress Report for Serbia is expected on 9 November, with the next one to follow in two years, i.e. in 2018.
Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Oscar Benedict said that the opening of Chapters 23 and 24 in July was a sign that Serbia’s EU membership negotiations are on a good track. He said that the areas encompassed by these chapters will be the focus for the European Commission and EU member states until the end of negotiations and reminded that these chapters on the rule of law are the first to be opened and the last to be closed during negotiations.
