The Vice President of the Government of Serbia and President of the Coordination Body for Gender Equality Prof Dr Zorana Mihajlović and the UN permanent coordinator in Serbia Irena Vojačkova-Solorano signed the project document “Integrated Response to Violence against Women and Girls”, worth 950.000 dollars, which will enable the better prevention of family and partner violence and violence against children.
“Family and partner violence is not any more only the issue of an individual or one government, it is a social and economic problem against which we must fight together”, said Mihajlović having signed the document in the Government of Serbia.
She reminded us that 314 women were killed in family violence in the last 10 years and 16 women were killed during this year only all of which cause other problems and affects children.
Vojačkova-Solorano said that this project would enable the continuation of the cooperation between UN and the Coordination Body for Gender Equality in the fight against violence against women, which was, as she said, omnipresent. “Violence becomes a great social problem and violence against women must not be acceptable. This is not only a private issue but also a social one “, said Solorano.
