Call for Public Discussion of the Draft Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma in Republic of Serbia (2015–2025)

Published 01.12.2015.

Vlada Republike Srbije - logoThe Government of the Republic of Serbia prepared the Draft Strategy for the Social Inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2015-2025.

The document was produced out of the need to improve the issue of social inclusion of Roma persons in a systematic and comprehensive manner, both at the national, as well as the local level, using the experiences in implementing the previous Strategy for the Improvement of the Status of Roma in the Republic of Serbia (2009-2015) and the baseline for drafting the new strategy.

Along the road to European integration, Serbia joined the member states in regards to the social inclusion of Roma, since it used the EU Framework for National Strategies for Roma Inclusion as the basis in drafting this document, as prescribed by the European Commission along with the European Parliament for its member states, ensuring continued cooperation, as well as continued EU support to Serbia for improving the status of Roma.

The operational conclusions of the third Seminar on the Social Inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia 2015-2017, prepared by the Republic of Serbia jointly with the European Commission, became an integral part of this document, and the draft Strategy was harmonized with the Action Plan for negotiation chapter 23: “Judiciary and Basic Rights” in the process of accession negotiations between the Republic of Serbia and the European Union.

The Strategy for the Social Inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia (2015-2025) is a strategic document intended to intensify the activities of institutions at the national and local level for issues of social inclusion of Roma and combating discrimination of Roma during the next year, i.e. the creation of the conditions for full access to achieving human rights by persons of Roma nationality. The document covers five priority areas: education, housing, employment, healthcare and social protection.

The Government of the Republic of Serbia invites all stakeholders to submit comments to the Draft Strategy for the Social Inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia for 2015-2025 between 26 November and 17 December.
